A shaft of divine light breaks through a leaden sky in this Aert de Gelder masterwork, bathing the central figures in an otherworldly glow. 🎨 Earthy ochres and deep browns, painted with the same tenebrism Rembrandt made famous, wrap Christ and John the Baptist in hushed reverence as onlookers witness the sacred moment. Rich chiaroscuro pulls the eye straight to the light — a solemn, contemplative piece for a library, study, or dining room.
